For Miral, creating world-class entertainment destinations has always been about more than opening individual attractions. The vision has been to develop integrated destinations where entertainment, hospitality and leisure experiences come together to create lasting value for visitors. Today, Miral’s portfolio of destinations reflects that long-term approach, with Yas Island evolving through a series of carefully planned developments that have transformed it into one of the region’s leading entertainment hubs.
The Beginning of a Long-Term Vision
Yas Island’s transformation began in the late 2000s as part of Abu Dhabi’s wider strategy to diversify its economy and strengthen its appeal as a global tourism destination. Rather than relying solely on cultural attractions or seasonal events, the emirate invested in a destination that could attract visitors throughout the year while supporting hospitality, retail and business events.
This long-term approach laid the foundation for a phased development strategy. Instead of launching multiple attractions at once, each new destination was introduced with a distinct purpose, gradually expanding the island’s entertainment offering and creating a more diverse visitor experience over time.

Building the Portfolio, One Destination at a Time
The evolution of Yas Island began in 2009 with the opening of Yas Marina Circuit, home to the FORMULA 1 ETIHAD AIRWAYS GRAND PRIX™ and a landmark development that established the island as a global destination for motorsport and major events. More than a racing venue, it laid the foundation for the entertainment destination that would follow.
In 2010, Ferrari World Yas Island became the world’s first Ferrari-branded theme park, introducing a globally recognised attraction that placed Abu Dhabi firmly on the map for family entertainment and thrill-seekers. Three years later, in 2013, Yas Waterworld Yas Island expanded the island’s appeal by offering a water park experience inspired by Emirati culture and storytelling.
The entertainment portfolio continued to diversify with the opening of Warner Bros. World™ Yas Island in 2018, bringing iconic characters and immersive indoor experiences to the destination. This was followed by CLYMB™ Yas Island in 2019, adding record-breaking indoor skydiving and climbing experiences for adventure enthusiasts.
The next phase of development broadened Yas Island’s appeal beyond theme parks. Etihad Arena, which opened in 2021, introduced a world-class venue for concerts, sporting events and live entertainment, enabling the island to host internationally acclaimed performances and large-scale events throughout the year.
In 2023, SeaWorld® Yas Island marked another milestone in the destination’s evolution. Combining marine life experiences with education, research and conservation, it introduced a new dimension to the island’s entertainment offering while reinforcing Abu Dhabi’s commitment to creating experiences that are both engaging and meaningful.
Together, these developments demonstrate a carefully planned approach to destination building, with each new addition complementing the last and contributing to Yas Island’s evolution as one of the region’s leading entertainment destinations.
Creating an Entertainment Ecosystem
The success of Yas Island extends beyond its attractions. Hotels, Yas Mall, Yas Bay Waterfront, Etihad Arena and a growing selection of restaurants and leisure experiences have developed alongside the entertainment destinations, creating a well-connected ecosystem.
This integrated approach allows visitors to enjoy multiple experiences in a single trip, whether attending a live event, visiting a theme park, dining by the waterfront or extending their stay at one of the island’s hotels. Rather than being a destination for a single attraction, Yas Island has evolved into a place where visitors can spend several days exploring everything it has to offer.
What’s Next for Abu Dhabi’s Entertainment Landscape?
Abu Dhabi’s transformation into a global entertainment destination continues to gather momentum. Building on the success of Yas Island’s existing attractions, the next phase of development is already taking shape through landmark projects that will further strengthen the emirate’s international appeal.
The recently announced Disney theme park resort, developed in partnership with The Walt Disney Company, will bring Disney’s seventh global theme park destination to Yas Island. Topgolf, the modern golf entertainment leader, is also coming to Yas Island, introducing an exciting addition to the island’s world-class leisure and entertainment. Additionally, Warner Bros. World Abu Dhabi is also preparing for its next chapter of story-driven experiences, with a landmark expansion set to introduce a highly anticipated Harry Potter-themed land, further enhancing Yas Island’s portfolio of immersive entertainment offerings.
Together, these developments reflect a long-term commitment to innovation and destination growth. Through Miral Experiences, the focus remains on creating memorable moments that encourage visitors to return while ensuring Abu Dhabi’s entertainment landscape continues to evolve for years to come.
